So, like, there was this 14-year-old girl who, for some reason, thought it was a good idea to try and murder two teachers and another student at a school in Wales. I mean, seriously, who does that? Anyway, she got sentenced to 15 years in detention for her little murder attempt. The girl, whose name we can’t say cuz of legal stuff, was found guilty of trying to kill teachers Fiona Elias and Liz Hopkin, along with a student at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman in Ammanford, Carmarthenshire.
The whole drama went down on April 24th last year, during the mid-morning break. Emergency services had to swoop in to deal with what was described as a “serious episode of violence”. Turns out, the girl took her dad’s fishing “multi-tool” to school and ended up admitting to wounding three people with it. She also got in trouble for having a bladed article on school property. After a week-long trial in February, the jury decided she was guilty of attempted murder.
After she got arrested, the girl told the cops she was “pretty sure” her little stunt would make the news. She even said something like, “that’s one way to be a celebrity”. Both Mrs. Elias and Mrs. Hopkin got seriously hurt in the attack, with Mrs. Hopkin needing to be airlifted to the hospital for four stab wounds. The other two victims also had to get medical treatment.
In court, Mrs. Elias talked about how the whole thing really messed her up. She said her life changed forever that day and that she’ll never forget it. Mrs. Elias also mentioned she’s still on a journey to heal from the whole ordeal. She even said she might be open to meeting with the student she almost got murdered by, but only if they go through some sort of intervention first. Oh, and she’s planning to push for safer working conditions in schools now.
Mrs. Hopkin, on the other hand, called the attack the worst thing that ever happened to her. She’s grateful she was there to save Mrs. Elias, but the whole experience left her with some scars, both physical and emotional. Mrs. Hopkin is now scared to go back to teaching, which is totally understandable given what she went through. She even told the girl who attacked her that she doesn’t want her to suffer forever, but she better work on making her life better.
The judge handling the case mentioned that the girl would serve half of her 15-year sentence before they even think about letting her out. He made it clear that what she did affected a lot of people, including herself. The judge pointed out that the girl did her dirty work in front of a bunch of other students, almost like she wanted an audience for her murder plot. He also mentioned that the girl didn’t seem to care much about how her victims felt or what they’ve been through since the attack.
Overall, the impact of the attack on the victims is ongoing, according to Detective Chief Superintendent Ross Evans from the police department. He talked about how the physical wounds would heal, but the mental trauma would stick around for a while. He also hoped that the students who saw the violence would still feel safe at school. Basically, he wants everyone to know that messing with school safety won’t fly.
So yeah, that’s the story of a 14-year-old girl who thought she could play murderer at school. Let’s hope she learns her lesson and turns her life around.
