The Paris Olympics closing ceremony began with an exciting performance from a “golden voyager”, acrobats, and talented French musicians. French indie rock band Phoenix, electro house artist Kavinsky, and Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig were among the artists who took the stage during the lively music segment of the ceremony.

The event kicked off with a beautiful rendition of “Under The Paris Sky” from the 1951 film of the same name, performed by French singer Zaho de Sagazan and a choir. The performance took place in the Tuileries Garden in Paris before four-time gold medallist swimmer Leon Marchand carried a small flame to the Stade de France.

As thousands of Olympians entered the stadium representing their home countries, they came together for a fun karaoke session. The sing-along included popular songs like “Les Champs-Elysees,” Gala Rizzatto’s “Freed From Desire,” and Queen’s classic anthem “We Are The Champions.”

The theatrical “record” segment of the ceremony featured a dramatic orchestra performance accompanied by a stunning light show that illuminated the stadium. This part of the event paid homage to the records set by athletes and the “golden record” that was sent into space in 1977 as a time capsule.

A captivating moment during the ceremony was when a “golden voyager” descended onto the stage in a magnificent gold costume. This voyager’s journey included receiving a Greek flag from a cloaked individual to symbolize the ancient origins of the Games. The voyager was later joined by acrobats dressed as alien-like creatures who helped discover the Olympic rings, which were raised from the stadium floor into the air.

French pianist and opera singer Benjamin Bernheim delivered a moving performance of “Hymn To Apollo” while suspended in the air, accompanied by composer Alain Roche playing the piano. The energy soared when Versailles-formed band Phoenix took the stage with their hit song “Lisztomania,” getting everyone in the Stade de France dancing along.

The musical performances continued with Belgian singer Angele joining Phoenix on stage, followed by French electro house artist Kavinsky performing his classic song “Nightcall.” Cambodian rapper Vannda also took the stage, showcasing his talent before Vampire Weekend star Ezra Koenig joined Phoenix to begin the handover to the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

The closing ceremony will feature more performances from Californian artists like Billie Eilish, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Snoop Dogg as Paris passes the Olympic torch to Los Angeles. Hollywood actor Tom Cruise, rumored to make an appearance during the ceremony, was also spotted in the stadium, adding to the excitement of the event.
