Manchester United’s Transfer Stance on Frenkie de Jong

Manchester United have made it clear that they have no intention of reviving their pursuit of Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong before the transfer window closes. Despite being the subject of a ten-week pursuit by United in 2022, De Jong has expressed his desire to stay at Barcelona, turning down a potential move to Old Trafford.

The Dutch international reportedly felt that he was being pushed out of the Camp Nou due to his high wages, which ultimately led to him rejecting the move to the north-west. As a result, United shifted their focus and successfully signed Casemiro from Real Madrid for £60m instead. While the Brazilian still has two years left on his £350,000-a-week deal with United, the club is open to considering offers for him this summer.

United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, is keen on recruiting a midfielder following the departure of Sofyan Amrabat. Despite reports suggesting that United could potentially resurrect their pursuit of De Jong, the club has made it clear that they are exploring other options and have no immediate plans to move for the Barcelona midfielder.

One of the leading targets for United is Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte, although the French club’s £51m asking price may need to be lowered for a potential deal to materialize. Additionally, Burnley are seeking £30m for Norway international Sander Berge, who was notably left out of the team’s recent victory against Luton.

United have already been active in the transfer market, having spent around £140m on players such as Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs De Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui. However, there are still ongoing discussions regarding potential additional signings, including the possibility of offloading Scott McTominay to Napoli in order to bring in a new midfielder.

Overall, United’s transfer strategy remains focused on securing the right players to strengthen the squad for the upcoming season. While there may be speculation surrounding potential targets like De Jong, the club is determined to make informed decisions that align with their long-term goals.
