An Egyptian guy named Ahmed Ramadan Mohamad Ebid got himself a 25-year jail sentence for smuggling over 3,000 people into Europe. Like, that’s a lot of people, man. He arrived in the UK in 2022, and started working with some shady networks in North Africa to bring hundreds of migrants from Libya to Italy. The National Crime Agency is all up in this, claiming that this 42-year-old dude is the first person to be convicted for organizing these sneaky crossings from the UK.
The judge, Adam Hiddleston, called Ebid out for being all about that money when it came to human trafficking. He was all about that cash flow, you know? The judge mentioned how Ebid was raking in millions from these desperate folks, who were just trying to make a better life for themselves. It’s pretty messed up, if you ask me. The dude was living in Isleworth, west London, when he got caught in June 2023. Like, not the best place to be doing illegal stuff, right?
So, Ebid spilled the beans during a trial within a trial, where the prosecution and defense couldn’t agree on the facts of the case. He admitted to helping seven fishing boats filled with migrants make their way to Europe. He tried to play off his role as minor, but the judge wasn’t having any of that nonsense. Ebid was actually more involved than he let on, especially in getting those boats across the sea to Italy. It’s crazy to think about all those people on those boats, man. Just wild.
