A tragic train collision occurred in Wales on Monday evening, resulting in the death of one man and injuries to 15 others. The incident took place near Llanbrynmair in Mid Wales at around 7:30 pm.

According to Dyfed-Powys Police, the deceased man was confirmed, and 15 individuals were transported to the hospital, fortunately with injuries that were not considered life-threatening or life-changing. All remaining passengers were safely evacuated from both trains. The British Transport Police reported receiving a call about a low-speed collision involving two trains.

Emergency response teams, including paramedics, fire and rescue, and Dyfed Powys Police, quickly arrived at the scene. Superintendent Andrew Morgan expressed his condolences to the man’s family and assured that support was being provided by specialist officers. Additionally, a helicopter from the National Police Air Service for the West and Wales Region was dispatched to assist.

The incident involved the 6:31 pm service from Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth and the 7:09 pm service from Machynlleth to Shrewsbury, as stated in a joint announcement from Network Rail and Transport for Wales. Due to the closure of the line, passengers were advised to plan their journeys accordingly and check for updates via National Rail Enquiries.

With the lines temporarily shut down, National Rail warned passengers of potential cancellations or revisions to train schedules due to the operational incident. In response to the tragic event, First Minister of Wales Eluned Morgan shared her sympathies for those affected and commended the emergency services for their swift response.
