Kim Kardashian, the reality star turned aspiring lawyer, recently made headlines when she declared she was done with law school. Many people were left wondering if this meant she was now a full-fledged lawyer. However, the truth of the matter is a bit more complicated than a simple yes or no. Despite completing a recognized legal program, Kim’s journey to becoming a practicing attorney in California is still a work in progress.
Kim Kardashian’s Unusual Path to Law
Back in 2019, Kardashian shocked the world by announcing her enrollment with the State Bar of California, causing quite a stir of surprise and curiosity. Her inspiration stemmed from a visit to the White House and a burning desire to make a difference in the justice system, particularly when it came to clemency cases. Instead of taking the conventional route through a traditional university, Kim opted for an unconventional path known as the Law Office Study Program (LOSP).
The LOSP allows individuals to qualify for the bar without the need for a university degree, as long as they work under the supervision of a licensed attorney or judge. Typically designed to be completed in four years, Kim’s journey was extended to six due to delays caused by the Covid pandemic and her hectic schedule. In August 2024, she took to Instagram to share a video of herself donning a graduation gown, marking the end of her six-year journey through the program. A friend’s voice in the video dubbed it a ‘surprise graduation’ as Kim sat on stage with a cap and gown.
