Detectives have recently launched an investigation into multiple individuals suspected of aiding Mohamed al Fayed in committing sexual abuse over several decades. The allegations against the former Harrods and Fulham FC owner include rape and sexual assault dating back to 1977 until 2014. The victims range from 13 years old and upwards, with 21 women initially contacting the Metropolitan Police about incidents from 2005 to 2023. Unfortunately, Fayed passed away at the age of 94 last August without facing charges.

With around 150 people reaching out to the police, 90 of whom are potential victims, the focus has now shifted to investigating Fayed’s associates who may have facilitated or enabled the abuse. Commander Stephen Clayman commended the courage of the survivors who have come forward, emphasizing the importance of giving them a voice despite Fayed’s passing. The investigation aims to hold those complicit in the abuse accountable and seek justice for the victims.

Harrods has expressed its support for the Metropolitan Police’s investigation and encourages survivors to engage with the authorities for the pursuit of justice. As detectives delve into previous investigations totaling 50,000 pages of evidence, they are looking for any overlooked opportunities or misconduct. While two files were submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service in 2008 and 2015, no charges were filed due to insufficient evidence for conviction.

Acknowledging potential gaps in past investigations, Commander Clayman assured the public that the police are committed to addressing the allegations with integrity and thoroughness to rebuild trust. The Metropolitan Police urge anyone with information or who has been impacted by Fayed’s actions to come forward and share their experiences for a comprehensive understanding of the case.

Following a BBC documentary shedding light on Fayed’s alleged misconduct, numerous women, particularly former Harrods employees, have come forward with abuse allegations. Harrods has distanced itself from Fayed’s era of ownership, expressing shock at the claims. Fulham FC is also investigating whether any individuals associated with the club were affected and encourages anyone with relevant information to reach out to the club’s safeguarding department or the police for assistance.
