A teenage girl is facing serious charges after allegedly shooting her mother in the face and attempting to kill her stepfather. Carly Gregg, now 15, has been accused of committing these horrific acts when she was just 14 years old in Mississippi.

The court proceedings revealed shocking details of the incident, including Carly’s alleged laughter during the trial. Despite the gravity of the charges against her, Carly reportedly struggled to contain her giggles as evidence was presented in court.

According to reports, Carly is said to have shot her mother, Ashley Smylie, in the face inside their family home before luring her stepfather, Heath Smylie, home and shooting him twice. She then allegedly asked a friend if they had ever seen a dead body before leading them to the bodies.

Carly’s legal team is pursuing an insanity defense for her, as she turned down a plea deal of 40 years in prison. She is facing charges of murder, attempted murder, and evidence tampering, with a potential life sentence looming if convicted.

During the trial, Carly was observed in a fit of laughter as she watched her legal team write something down. Despite her attempts to stifle her giggles by covering her mouth, the moment was captured on livestream.

Counselor Rebecca Kirk testified that Carly had expressed interest in reading “Crime and Punishment” weeks before the shooting. The novel, written by Fyodor Dostoevsky in 1886, follows a nihilist who plans to murder a woman and believes extraordinary people are entitled to kill others.

Dr. Andrew Clark, a psychiatrist, suggested that Carly may have “blacked out” for up to 90 minutes before the alleged offense. However, he also noted that Carly could potentially be faking mental illness.

Carly had confided in Dr. Clark about smoking marijuana and being prescribed medications for mood disorders. Her stepfather, who survived the attack, described her as a “sweet little girl” who appeared like a “demon” on the day of the incident.

The trial continues as more details emerge about the tragic events that unfolded in the Gregg household. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
